WASHINGTON, D.C., 03/29/2023 – Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA) today announced Jackson Family Wines as the 2023 recipient of WSWA’s Supplier Sustainability Award. Jackson Family Wines was nominated for the award by a wholesaler partner for their Rooted for Good: Roadmap to 2030 sustainability and climate action plan, a bold, comprehensive set of goals and initiatives designed to help make a significant impact within the wine industry to support the Jackson family’s long-term vision for a sustainable future rooted in the land.

“My relationship with the Jackson Family spans more than three decades and the family has stayed true to its promise of being great stewards of their land and vineyards,” said M.S. Walker President Doug Shaw. “They are true leaders in sustainable farming along with many other environmentally sound practices.  I continue to be in awe of their commitment to crafting world class wines in a way that assures sustainability for generations to come.”

In 2021, Jackson Family Wines unveiled Rooted for Good, which includes an ambitious plan to cut their carbon footprint in half by 2030 and become climate positive by 2050, with purchasing offsets.   The company currently uses renewable energy to power more than 30% of their winemaking operations and they built the U.S. wine industry’s largest on-site solar array. To meet their 10-year climate goals by 2030, they are poised to expand on-site renewable energy to power more than 50% of their annual winemaking operations’ electricity and are working to transition their vehicle fleet – everything from trucks to tractors – to zero emission vehicles.  All of this is in addition to their mission to transition 100% of their estate vineyards to regenerative farming practices over the next decade. The company also made a strong commitment to cultivate a culture that supports diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) throughout the wine industry with its social impact work.  On the global stage, Jackson Family Wines co-founded the International Wineries for Climate Action (IWCA) to galvanize their winery peers towards decarbonization strategies.

“All of us at Jackson Family Wines are honored to receive this recognition from WSWA for our Rooted for Good: Roadmap to 2030 sustainability and climate action initiative,” says Chris Jackson, a second-generation proprietor at Jackson Family Wines. “As a multigenerational family wine business, environmental stewardship is at the heart of everything we do to make exceptional wine across the globe – from our farming and winemaking practices to our sales and distribution channels, and beyond. We’re proud of this giant effort to lead ambitious goals and initiatives that will move our company and our industry toward a better future,” he added.

WSWA’s Supplier Sustainability Award was created to celebrate wine and spirits producers who have successfully implemented innovative and unique company activities, either pertaining to operations or production, that are designed to mitigate environmental impacts and improve sustainability for generations to come.

The award will be presented on stage at the Opening Session of Access LIVE on April 2, 2023.
