A United Industry Effort Led by Responsibility.org and Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America to Keep Kids Alcohol-Free

Washington – September 9, 2019 – Responsibility.org and Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA) will host the Inaugural Champions of Responsibility Awards Dinner on Tuesday, October 15 at The Ritz-Carlton, Washington, DC  recognizing nominees for their work to keep alcohol out of kids’ hands and/or who encourage kids to say “no” to underage drinking, the group announced today.

“The distilled spirits industry is united in efforts to prevent underage drinking, and we are joining together in our nation’s capital to celebrate those who are committed to advancing a lifetime of conversations about alcohol responsibility,” said Chris Swonger, President and CEO, Distilled Spirits Council of the United States (DISCUS) and Responsibility.org.

Since 1991, underage drinking among our nation’s youth has been cut in half, while at the same time high school seniors are reporting all time high disapproval levels of binge drinking and record low levels of alcohol availability. Over the past ten years, 3.25 million fewer 12- to 20-year-olds report they have consumed alcohol in the past month.

The inaugural event will bring together executives from the distiller and wholesaler companies, industry experts, celebrity advocates, leading policy and law makers, and law enforcement from across the U.S.

“We are proud to continue doing good work with our partner’s in responsibility, particularly this opportunity to celebrate and recognize those companies who are standard bearers in preventing underage drinking in their communities,” said Michelle Korsmo, President and CEO of WSWA.

Proceeds from October 15th dinner’s tickets and table sales will go to Responsibility.org’s Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Education and will be used to keep kids safe and alcohol-free in communities across the country.
