WSWA Presents 2014 Distinguished Political Award to Wirtz Beverage Group

Award Recognizes Support of WSWA-PAC and Government Affairs Activity

(WASHINGTON, D.C.)—The Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA) presented its 2014 Distinguished Political Award to Wirtz Beverage Group of Chicago, Ill., during the organization’s 72nd Annual Convention & Exposition which opened Sunday and runs through April 15 in Orlando.

The award is given each year to a member firm that sets new standards for broad employee participation in the WSWA Political Action Committee (WSWA-PAC) and also exemplifies a high level of engagement in outreach and educational activities with elected officials at the local, state and federal levels.

During calendar year 2014, Wirtz Beverage Group employees collectively donated more than $110,000 to the WSWA-PAC. Some 400 Wirtz employees support the PAC. Executives and employees also participated in a variety of site visits, tours and educational briefings for state and federal elected officials as well as in supporting the annual WSWA Legislative Fly-In when wholesalers visit with their representatives and senators in Congress.

“The WSWA-PAC has grown to be one of the largest and most prominent PACs in the trade association community,” WSWA President and CEO Craig Wolf said. “This success is a direct result of companies like Wirtz making political engagement and government affairs involvement top priorities. Like many wholesalers, Wirtz is actively engaged and this collective effort benefits the entire industry,” Wolf added.

The award was presented to Wirtz Executive Vice President Ed Callison and Vice President, Government Affairs & Public Policy Don Pydo by Carmine Martignetti, President of Martignetti Companies of Norwood, Mass., and incoming WSWA-PAC Chairman.
