Digital Consultant, Hill Vet Michael Babyak Joins WSWA as Digital Media and Communications Manager
(WASHINGTON, D.C.)—Digital consultant and Capitol Hill veteran Michael Babyak has joined the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA) as Digital Media and Communications Manager. The position is newly created and reflects the organization adapting to member, industry and news media requirements in areas of social and digital media content, production and support.
Babyak reports to Vice President of Communications, Jeff Solsby, and is responsible for implementing and executing digital and online communications programs across multiple channels including the WSWA.org website, WSWAConvention.org microsite, and social and digital media platforms. He will also manage photo, video, email marketing and government relations communications projects. Babyak will direct full redesigns of both organization websites.
“Our industry and our members are constantly evolving to meet the rapidly changing needs of consumers and the marketplace—and the association is growing to reflect the climate in which we operate,” said WSWA President and CEO Craig Wolf. “Michael complements WSWA’s staff by providing us with deep experience in established as well as evolving social, digital and online communications tools, and will help the communications team continue to deliver consistent, effective and valuable products and services to our members,” Wolf added.
Babyak joined WSWA from Alexandria, Va.-based Targeted Victory, a prominent digital campaign consulting firm where he worked on accounts including Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.V.) for Congress (as well as her Senate campaign), Tom Graves (R-Ga.) for Congress, Jim Renacci (R-Ohio) for Congress, and congressional campaigns supported by the political operation of Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio). He also supported projects for the New Jersey Republican Party and the Pennsylvania Republican Party.
Prior to his work at Targeted Victory, Babyak worked on Capitol Hill in the office of Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.). He began his career in the Congressman’s office in 2007 earning promotions to serve as Digital Media Director and later Press Secretary. In 2009, as an early adopter, he launched Rep. McHenry’s social and digital media presence. Babyak left Capitol Hill in 2011 to join Targeted Victory. A native of Kernersville, N.C., Babyak graduated from Princeton University.
