WSWA Member Firm Honored as “American Wine Legend”
(WASHINGTON)—Hubert Opici, the patriarch of one of America’s “great wine families” will receive the “American Wine Legend” award from Wine Enthusiast at a New York City gala in January. The Opici Wine Group is a longstanding member of the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA).
Opici, a regular fixture around the company’s headquarters at age 96, began his career in the industry in 1934 as a delivery boy at this father’s New Jersey-based wine business.
Over the next three quarters of a century, he expanded the firm into a leading importer and distributor, today offering some 50 brands and servicing restaurants and retailers in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Florida and Washington, D.C. The fourth generation of the Opici family continues to lead the firm.
“Hubert Opici is a giant in our field and an industry icon. Best of all, he has—like so many others in our industry—worked to maintain deep family involvement while continually growing the business. These qualities, along with product diversity and local marketing expertise, remain hallmarks in the wine and spirits industry,” WSWA President and CEO Craig Wolf said.
“On behalf of our members and our industry, Hubert deserves our congratulations and our appreciation for his decades of service, innovation and commitment to building a thriving American wine and spirits industry that is the envy of the world,” Wolf added.
