WSWA Educational Foundation Announces Scholarships to Support Member Firms’ Children
(WASHINGTON, D.C.)—Applications are now available for the WSWA Educational Foundation College Scholarship Program that awards scholarships each year to help student dependents of WSWA member firm employees pay for college.
As in past years, the foundation will award ten $2,500 scholarships. In addition, because of the generous support of wholesalers and suppliers attending the 2013 Convention, an additional fifteen $1,000 scholarships will be presented.
“WSWA is proud to help support the academic careers of our member firm employees’ children and I encourage all WSWA member firms to urge children of employees to apply,” WSWA President and CEO Craig Wolf said.
Last year, the WSWA Educational Foundation presented scholarships to a wide array of students from around the country, including: an art student and fashion entrepreneur who is responsible for paying the entire cost of her college education, a student planning a career in health with an emphasis on care in Africa, the child of a disabled father from a financially-burdened family who maintains a 4.1 grade point average on a career path in medicine and an Army Reservist and student pursuing a career as a military psychologist.
“The cost of college education continues to rise—as it simultaneously becomes more essential for students entering the working world,” Wolf added. “This scholarship is one of the many ways our industry can support its best asset: its employees,” he said.
“Wholesalers, suppliers and industry donors have increased their overall support this year making possible a new level of scholarships. These donors deserve our appreciation for supporting industry families,” Wolf said.
The WSWA Educational Foundation is the charitable arm of Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America (WSWA), a national trade association representing the wholesale tier of the wine and spirits industry. With more than 350 member companies across all 50 states and the District of Columbia, WSWA is the voice for wholesalers in Congress, the administration, the courts, with the news media and in communities across America.
